New Spreader Boots and Boom topping lift

It was time to replace my spreader boots and the old ones literally fell apart in my hands when I touched them. It's a bit of a pain to get the new ones on as they are just at my arms reach, even with the mast steps.

Nice and new

Also replaced the boom topping lift out of an abundance of caution. The prior dyneema lift was almost 15 years old so I replaced it. Cheap and easy. New dyneema line and an excuse to go up the mast.

I just re-found your blog and have been having much fun reading through it again.
I scoped your posts before purchasing my Gulf 32 Pilothouse and was sold. I have had only one minor complaint with the vessel since: The bunks are too short. This being the only issue, I feel quite lucky to belong to Sea Fever.
I wish you the best and hope to see more of you on the blog soon.

I'm so glad to hear you find this site helpful. Where do you keep your Gulf? Though they are often abused as live aboards, I find the Gulf 32 to be the best all around cruising boat for our purposes that I can imagine having. Just so capable and comfortable. Worthy of my efforts. They weren't made to a really high standard, but it's easy enough to upgrade them.

Hello again Brian,
I continue to enjoy, with some envy, your blog. we have had Thetis on the HARD for over a year and a half. I will spare you all the details of the major refit we are doing but I wanted to ask you several things. where did you get the spreader boots, I am re-rigging
and will need to replace the boots. I am using rigging only as you have purchased from them in the past and I assume you still do.
they are recommending either a Harken or a Schaefer jib furler so if you have any recommendations I would appreciate it also.
My wife Brenda and I will be in the port Townsend/ Port Angeles area in April for 5 days or so and would enjoy getting to meet you and Amy if at all possible. I hope you aren't offended by the request but we have learned over the past several years that sailors vivsting our area (HOMER AK/Kachemak bay) have been wonderful to visit with and several have become friends. No offense taken if you decline.
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and adventures!
Don Keller

Hi Don,
The boots are just standard models you can get anywhere like Fisheries Supply. I haven't used Rigging Only since I did Aeolus and am beginning to think about replacing my rigging again. I haven't had to replace the furler on Aeolus and so don't have any recommendations. I have good experiences with Harken, and used them for my traveler, but that's nothing. I'm happy to coordinate with you but won't post personal contact information on this forum as it is constantly used by Russian spam folks. Sorry about that. I hope to meet you sometime on the water! Good luck with your projects.
